I’m Mike Biewer, a graphic designer residing in the beautiful city of Portland, OR. I make a living creating marketing materials, designing layouts, creating brands, designing websites and utilizing my skills in any way possible to help my clients.

Generally speaking, my clients are small businesses, start-ups or large organizations that have a little bit of overflow and need to utilize the skills and software of an industry professional to help them get the job done. I have assisted many clients with brand design, editorial layout, brochures, business cards, websites, advertising design and pretty much anything else that requires someone with the knowledge and know-how of design and actually accomplishing it.

I am also currently teaching Concept Development within the Graphic Design curriculum over at the Art Institute of Portland. I really enjoy teaching, more so than I ever thought I would. It is a completely different experience being on the other side of the desk. The main reason I enjoy teaching so much is that it helps me to learn as well. I am quickly becoming an expert in the subject matter in which I teach just because I have to explain it, demonstrate it and write about it in so many different ways for my students. I can see why teachers love what they do. There is something about a student saying, “That makes total sense.” after you explained something to them that is very rewarding.

I currently live in Portland, OR with my wife and two cats. When I’m not designing, I enjoy making my own beer, traveling, frisbee golf, family, friends, hockey, concerts, reading, doodling and playing video games to just name a few things.

A brief timeline

• 1981 : Born in Fargo, ND
• 2000 : Graduated High School from West Fargo High
• 2003 : Went to Moorhead State University for Multimedia Design
• 2006 : Started attending the Art Institute Online after realizing MSU didn’t teach fundamentals, just software
• 2007 : Started working professionally as a graphic designer and video editor at Studio 7 Productions
• 2008 : Received an Addy Award for a promotional piece
• 2009 : Graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online Division
• 2010 : Moved to Portland, OR and started Mike Biewer Design
• 2011 : Began teaching at the Art Institute of Portland
