The cover concept created for Today’s Giving Winter 2011. The issue them was “From here to the world,” highlighting some of the organizations from the Upper Midwest region that were having a global reach. As the Creative Director, working in conjunction with Today’s Giving magazine we had also decided that we really wanted to go an illustrative route to try and draw more attention among all the “faces” that are used in this particular market.
This was actually one of those ideas that dropped out of the sky and didn’t take to much research. We have always used hands and the 3 states to create a lot of our concepts and this was no different. I just decided to work in the world aspect by using repetition in the form of country silhouettes filled in with images associated with the organizations responsibly for those regions, with a worldly background. The original concept was red, but after looking at it for a long time, the red was definitely an “attention getter” but with the world idea, the red was starting to look negative and more “alert” or “danger” that originally intended. Blue served a nice, uplifting message associated with the world.
